Description

A mid-to-late 20th-century table lamp featuring two hand-carved hardwood figures mounted on a rectangular plywood base with live-edge detailing. The figures are executed in a stylized manner characteristic of mid-century African export or tourist art rather than field-collected ritual objects. The male figure is depicted playing a drum, while the female figure is shown carrying a load upon her head. Both figures exhibit textured, chiseled surfaces and are finished in a dark stain. The lamp assembly consists of an industrial-style metal pipe column secured by a floor flange, terminating in a shallow metal dish and a standard UK bayonet-style bulb holder. The metal flange at the base of the central column has cast characters including the digits 20 and 1914, which are industrial manufacturer part numbers. The construction utilizes components common to British industrial and electrical standards of the mid-to-late 20th century.
Base width: 28 cm.

Condition report:

The item is in fair condition. The wooden figures show minor surface scuffs and use-wear consistent with age and handling. The metal column and dish show surface oxidation and loss of finish. The electrical cord and socket appear aged. This lamp is sold as a decorative object only and has not been safety tested; it must be inspected and rewired by a qualified electrician before use.
