Lot 244:
Description
An American-made open-face pocket watch by Waltham. The white dial features black Roman numeral hour markers, an outer minute track, and a subsidiary seconds dial at the 6 o’clock position, signed Waltham in cursive script. The watch is housed in a gold-toned metal case, which shows the underlying brass base metal. The interior of the case back is stamped with the mark for the Illinois Watch Case Co., Elgin, U.S.A., and bears the serial number 3439493. The movement is a manual wind type. The watch is accompanied by a gold-toned curb link watch chain featuring a T-bar and a swivel lobster-style clasp.
Condition report:
The case shows visible signs of wear and brassing, particularly on the raised edges and the bow, with surface scratches and minor tarnish present. The dial is generally clean with minor surface marks, and the crystal has light surface scratching commensurate with age. The minute hand is missing; a spade-style hour hand and a blue steel seconds hand remain. The movement has not been tested for timekeeping or functionality and is sold as seen for parts, restoration, or as a collectible item.
