Description

A circular watch fob struck in 9 carat yellow gold, featuring a central shield-shaped polychrome enamel plaque. The enamel depicts a British soldier in early 20th-century service dress, including tunic and puttees, positioned on a shoreline against a landscape of water and hills. The soldier is shown holding a slender implement, possibly a fishing rod or signalling equipment. The central plaque is bordered by engraved laurel and foliate motifs, topped with a decorative scroll-work mount and a fixed suspension loop. The reverse of the fob is polished gold and bears a full set of British hallmarks. The hallmarks include the maker mark W.W.C for William Walter Cashmore, the fineness marks 9 and .375, the anchor symbol for the Birmingham Assay Office, and the date letter w for 1921. The fob is attached to a white metal watch chain comprising decorative bar links, twisted oval links, and a functional swivel clasp.

Fob weight: 5.72g
Chain weight: 7.85g
Total combined weight: 13.56g.

Condition report:

The fob is in very good condition. The gold surfaces show light age-related scratches and minor indentations to the reverse consistent with use. The enamel remains intact and vibrant, showing only minor surface wear and microscopic pitting under magnification, with no significant cracks or losses. The white metal chain is intact and the swivel clasp operates correctly.
