Description
A Guernsey Schneider Trophy Victory 65th Anniversary commemorative coin cover, issued in 1996. The assembly features an Isle of Man 1 Crown coin from the Aircraft of World War II series. The reverse of the coin depicts three Supermarine Spitfire aircraft in flight with the inscriptions AIRCRAFT OF WORLD WAR II, SUPERMARINE SPITFIRE, and the denomination 1 CROWN. The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The philatelic elements include a Guernsey miniature sheet and a commemorative label for R.J. Mitchell, cancelled by a pictorial postmark from the Guernsey Post Office dated 13 September 1996. The items are presented in a white card mount with printed illustrations and historical text on the reverse detailing the 1931 Schneider Trophy victory and the development of the Supermarine S6B and Spitfire. This item is from a limited edition of 4,000, with the specimen numbered 1886.
Condition report:
The coin is in uncirculated condition with no visible wear to the design or fields. The stamps and miniature sheet are well-preserved behind the protective plastic sleeve. The card mount remains in good condition with only minor evidence of handling at the corners and edges.
