Description
A philatelic and numismatic commemorative cover produced by Mercury (Watford) for Westminster to mark the 75th anniversary of the BBC. The cover features a block of eight gold-coloured perforated Machin definitive stamps, including 1ST and 26p denominations, surrounding a central label depicting the BBC television test card. Additionally, the cover bears a set of four perforated stamps from the 1972 BBC anniversary issue. All stamps are cancelled with pictorial circular date stamps from BBC Broadcasting House, London, W12, dated 23rd September 1997. The cover artwork includes a graphic of a vintage microphone and an image of a radio broadcaster. An uncirculated 1997 United Kingdom bi-metallic two pound coin is encapsulated within the cover, showing the concentric circles reverse design. This example is hand-numbered M 0756 from a limited edition of 5,000.
Condition report:
The cover is in excellent condition with no visible foxing, creasing, or toning. The stamps are well-centred with crisp pictorial cancellations. The encapsulated coin remains bright with no signs of oxidation or surface wear.
