Description

A standard-issue German S84/98 III bayonet, manufactured in 1944 by F.W. Höller of Solingen. The blade ricasso is stamped with the manufacturer code fze and the date 44. The bayonet features a single-edged steel blade with a single fuller and shows evidence of period sharpening. The hilt is fitted with ribbed, reddish-brown bakelite grip scales secured by two slotted screws. The steel pommel retains a functional attachment mechanism and bears two small circular waffenamt inspection stamps. The item is accompanied by its original steel scabbard and a black leather belt frog. The leather frog is of standard construction with white contrast stitching. The scabbard stud shows incised numbers including 5, 1, 2, and 6, though these are worn. No clearly legible manufacturer marks are visible on the reverse of the scabbard. This is a correct, late-war example of a standard German service bayonet, characterised by the use of synthetic resin grips typical of mid-to-late war production.

Blade Length: 25 cm
Overall Length: 38.5 cm.

Condition report:

The blade shows evidence of period sharpening along with scattered surface oxidation and pitting. Much of the original darkened finish has been worn away. The bakelite grips are in good condition with no visible cracks or significant chips.
