Description

This single bentwood rocking chair is designed in the classic Thonet Model No. 1 style, featuring elaborate steam-bent scrolls that form the runners, armrests, and decorative side supports. The frame is constructed from beech wood with a medium-to-dark stained finish and is assembled with visible screws. The chair features a tall, rounded-rectilinear backrest and a contoured seat, both of which are padded and upholstered in brown leatherette or vinyl. The upholstery is finished with a distinctive decorative patchwork or spiderweb geometric stitching pattern throughout. A small, illegible yellow rectangular label is affixed to the rear cross-rail. This specific combination of bentwood frame and patchwork upholstery is widely attributed to Luigi Crassevig, dating to approximately 1970.

Condition report:

The chair is in used vintage condition. The wooden frame shows various scuffs, scratches, and areas of finish loss, particularly concentrated on the runners, armrests, and lower scrolls. The upholstery appears intact with visible creasing and surface wear commensurate with age and use. The frame appears structurally sound, though typical for vintage bentwood furniture, some joints may require tightening.
