Description
A George II lidded tankard by Richard Bayley, constructed from 925 silver. This vessel, dating from the reign of King George II, features a tapering cylindrical body and a tiered, domed cover with an ornate scrolled thumbpiece. The tankard is equipped with a substantial S-scroll handle terminating in a heart-shaped shield and stands on a widely flared, moulded circular base. The lid is engraved with a faint armorial crest. A set of hallmarks is struck to the interior of the lid and the body, including the lion passant, the leopard’s head for London, the maker’s mark RB for Richard Bayley, and the date letter A for 1736.
Height: Approximately 200mm.
Condition report:
The tankard is in good overall condition, showing minor surface scratches and internal tarnishing consistent with age and use.
