Lot 294: A Damaged Cricket Ball Ashtray
Not sold
A damaged cricket ball repurposed as an ashtray, featuring a hollowed-out central well. The exterior is constructed from a dark red leather casing with prominent, traditional hand-stitched seams. The interior reveals the internal construction of the ball, showing an off-white composite layer and a central core with a brown fibrous texture. Remnants of a blue adhesive layer are visible between the leather and the inner core. The central hollow is shaped to serve as a bowl, with the surrounding leather and core material forming the rim. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The item shows signs of significant wear and heavy use. The leather casing is heavily abraded with loss of the original polished finish and numerous scuffs and surface scratches. A large section of the leather and internal core has been removed to create the ashtray well, exposing the multi-layered internal construction. Residue and discolouration consistent with use are present within the central hollow. No protective case or packaging is supplied.
