Lot 231: A 1912 English 925 Silver Vesta Case
A 1912 English 925 silver vesta case of rectangular form. The exterior is decorated throughout with hand-engraved foliate scrolls and acanthus leaves set against a textured linear ground, bordered by a punched dot rim. The front features a central vacant shield-shaped cartouche. The case is fitted with a side-mounted suspension ring and a hinged lid which opens to reveal a gilded interior. The base of the case is serrated to provide a striking surface. A set of hallmark punches is struck to the inner rim: the maker’s mark J.G LTD in a lobed surround, an anchor representing the Birmingham Assay Office, a lion passant indicating .925 fineness, and a lowercase n date letter for 1912. The interior contains several vintage wooden matches with purple tips.
