Lot 201: A 1905 Birmingham Sterling Silver Vesta Case, George Loveridge and Co

A 1905 sterling silver vesta case of rectangular form with rounded corners and a hinged lid. The exterior is decorated with elaborate repoussé and chased foliate scrollwork across both faces and the lid, set within a serrated border. One side features a central scrolling cartouche containing a stylised engraved monogram. The base of the case is fitted with a textured striking surface, and a small suspension ring is mounted to the side of the hinge. The interior rim bears a full set of English hallmarks comprising the maker’s mark GL&S for George Loveridge and Co, the anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, the lion passant for sterling silver, and the lowercase gothic letter f for the year 1905.
