Lot 135: A Ronson Adonis Pocket Lighter with Art Deco Decoration
A vintage pocket cigarette lighter of Ronson Adonis model, featuring a rectangular metal body with rounded sides. The exterior is finished with a polished chrome plating. The front face is decorated with an engraved Art Deco-inspired cartouche, consisting of a central rectangle with stepped linear borders. A cursive monogram reading H.C. is engraved within the central panel. The lighting mechanism at the top includes a flint wheel and a hinged snuffer cap. The snuffer arm is embossed with the name RONSON in capital letters below a central pivot screw. The base of the lighter is fitted with two recessed screw-port closures for fuel and flint access. Various inscriptions are struck into the metal base, including the manufacturer name RONSON and the model name ADONIS, though the full technical legend is partially obscured by surface wear. No country of origin mark is clearly legible.
Condition report:
The lighter shows evidence of significant surface handling and use. The chrome plating exhibits a dense network of fine surface scratches and scuffs across all faces. The lighting mechanism and upper cap show visible oxidation and carbon residue from use. The base shows heavier scratching around the screw ports and some minor tarnish to the recessed areas. The engraved monogram remains clear, though the surrounding cartouche shows some softening of the linear detail due to wear.
