Lot 134: A Colibri of London Gas Lighter in Presentation Case
Not sold
A vintage gas pocket lighter, featuring a slim rectangular body with a polished black finish on the front and reverse panels. The body is framed by a gold-tone metal border. The front face is decorated with a stylised gold-tone flourish in the upper left corner and two recessed vertical bars. The lighter is housed in its original brown plastic presentation case, which features a clear acrylic lid and a velvet-lined insert. An adhesive label on the interior of the case is printed in gold and black with a crest logo and the wordmark “COLIBRI OF LONDON”. No other maker’s marks or fineness stamps are visible on the exterior of the lighter.
Condition report:
The lighter shows visible signs of surface wear and handling. There is moderate oxidation and pitting to the gold-tone plating along the edges and corners. Fine surface scratches are present on the black lacquered panels and the metal frame. The presentation case shows scuffing to the clear lid and a small area of brown residue or marking on the exterior. The velvet lining shows light crushing from storage. The mechanical function of the lighter is untested, and it is supplied without gas.
