Lot 74: A Vintage Metal Miniature Figural Chess Set and Matching Board

A vintage miniature figural chess set with a matching board. The set consists of thirty-two cast metal pieces in contrasting yellow and white metal finishes. The pieces are cast in relief as miniature figurines on circular stepped bases: the kings are standing monarchs in robes holding staves; queens are standing female figures in period dress; bishops are standing figures in clerical or academic robes; knights are rearing horses with riders; rooks are stylised crenellated castle towers; and pawns are standing infantry soldiers in peaked hats and tunics. The square metal board features alternating yellow metal and darkened metal squares, surrounded by a raised border with incised, swirling line-work decoration highlighted in a yellow metal finish. The board is elevated on four decorative scroll-motif feet.
