Lot 161: A Late 19th Century Cobalt Blue Glass Ewer, with Hand-Painted Enamel Decoration
Not sold
A late 19th Century hand-blown glass ewer, presented in a deep translucent cobalt blue. The vessel features a bulbous body supported by a pedestal foot, leading to a slender neck with a central ring and a ruffled trefoil rim. An applied C-scroll handle in matching cobalt glass connects the rim to the shoulder. The exterior is decorated with polychrome hand-painted enamelling and gilding. The primary motif on the body consists of white bell-shaped blossoms resembling Lily of the Valley, joined by a central gilded bow featuring a raised red enamel cabochon. Small pink floral sprigs and gilded borders further embellish the neck, rim, and foot. The base is finished with a ground and polished circular pontil mark. Several irregular dark markings are visible on the underside of the base, but they do not form a legible name, signature, or symbol. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
