Lot 12: An Abbeydale Bone China Chrysanthemum Pattern Teapot
Not sold
An Abbeydale bone china teapot, featuring a globular body with a scrolled handle and a curved spout. The domed lid is surmounted by a gilded circular finial. The exterior is decorated in the Chrysanthemum pattern, an Imari-inspired design comprising alternating panels of stylised white and red floral motifs against a cobalt blue ground, interspersed with orange chrysanthemum blooms. The decoration is further embellished with hand-applied gilding, including a geometric lattice and foliate scrollwork border around the shoulder and lid rim. The underside of the base bears a printed red backstamp featuring a stylized crown above two interlocking A characters, with the text CHRYSANTHEMUM curved above and ABBEYDALE / DUFFIELD / DERBYSHIRE / BONE CHINA / MADE IN ENGLAND positioned below.
Condition report:
The teapot is in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or professional repairs to the body or lid. The gilding on the finial, handle, and spout remains intact with no significant signs of wear or rubbing. A small dark inclusion is present in the glaze on the underside of the base (photo 3). The interior appears clean and shows no signs of staining or heavy use.
