Lot 3: UK 2009 - 2012 The Royal Mint Countdown to London £5 Coin Set
A collection of UK £5 coins issued by The Royal Mint to commemorate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This set comprises five coins housed in individual illustrated presentation folders, all contained within a black card slipcase. The slipcase and folders feature photographic imagery of a sprinter and the official London 2012 logo. The collection includes the four-year “Countdown to London” series (2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012) and a separate 2012 Diamond Jubilee commemorative coin. Each coin is struck in cupro-nickel with a silver finish. The obverse of the Diamond Jubilee coin displays the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with the legend ELIZABETH · II · D · G · REG · F · D · 1952 · 2012. The folders are printed with the titles COUNTDOWN TO LONDON 2012 £5 BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED COIN and 1952 – 2012 DIAMOND JUBILEE. The outer packaging is printed with THE ROYAL MINT and the slogan KEEP THE FEELING.
Condition report:
The coins are in brilliant uncirculated condition, showing original mint lustre with no visible contact marks or toning on the obverse or reverse surfaces. The interior presentation folders are well-preserved. The outer cardboard slipcase shows minor signs of shelf wear, including small creases at the corners and light rubbing to the edges (photo 1). The coins remain housed in their original protective cardboard and plastic packaging.
