Lot 60: A German Hermle Mechanical Grandfather Clock with Lunar Phase Dial

A floor-standing grandfather clock, also known as a longcase clock, featuring a dark-stained wood case. The hood is designed with a swan-neck pediment and a central eagle-on-globe finial. The trunk contains a long glass door revealing three weights and a circular pendulum bob. The base is decorated with a foliate metal appliqué. The brass break-arch dial features a chapter ring with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for five-minute intervals. The dial centre and four spandrels are decorated with embossed and cast scrollwork. The arch contains a lunar phase complication with a starry night sky and two world hemispheres. The base of the dial is printed with a mark reading HERMLE CLOCKS and MADE IN GERMANY to the right of the six o’clock position. The movement is weight-driven by three chains. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
