Lot 547: Three Mid-20th Century Armchairs with Green Vinyl Upholstery
Not sold
This lot comprises three Mid-20th Century armchairs, each featuring a light-coloured wood frame. The chairs are constructed with angular, tapered armrests and square-section legs joined by a simple H-stretcher. The joinery incorporates visible dowel or screw-and-plug details at the junctions of the arms and backrests. Each chair is upholstered in a textured olive-green vinyl, finished with decorative piping along the edges of the seats and rectangular backrests. The frames appear to be solid wood, likely beech or maple, with a clear varnish finish typical of institutional or commercial furniture from this period. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the items.
Condition report:
The chairs show signs of heavy utility and age. The vinyl upholstery exhibits several small nicks and surface abrasions, most notably on the front edge of the centre chair\'s seat and the top corners of the backrests. Surface grime and areas of fading are present throughout the vinyl. The wooden frames show significant wear, including scuffing, staining, and loss of finish, particularly to the lower legs and the distal ends of the armrests. One chair appears slightly misaligned, suggesting the joinery may require tightening.
