Lot 53: A Late 19th Century Oak Mantel Clock
Not sold
A late 19th century mantel clock featuring a stained oak case of architectural form. The case is designed with a pedimented top adorned with a centrally carved fan motif, supported by two pairs of turned pilasters. It rests on a stepped plinth base with bracket feet. The circular white dial features black Roman numerals and red fleur-de-lis motifs at the hour positions, set with ornate pierced hands. A printed mark is visible centrally below the hand arbor consisting of two crossed arrows. The mechanical twin-train movement strikes on a coiled metal gong mounted to the interior backboard. The reverse of the case is fitted with a black-stained door and a rectangular aperture at the base.
Width: 330mm
Depth: 140mm.
Condition report:
The oak case exhibits general surface wear, including minor scuffs and dust consistent with use. A horizontal separation is visible in the wood panel below the dial (photo 1). The dial face shows areas of yellowing and staining around the winding arbors (photo 2). The brass bezel displays a natural patina. The movement appears complete and the pendulum is present, although the mechanical working status has not been verified.
