Not sold
An Italian ceramic sculptural group featuring an elderly couple seated on a settee, titled I RICORDI. The piece is constructed from ceramic with a matte, bisque-like finish and hand-painted polychrome decoration. The woman is depicted in a pale blue dress with floral motifs and a lavender collar, holding an open album featuring monochrome painted photographs. The man wears a brown suit with a patterned waistcoat, a pocket watch, and copper-toned wire-rimmed glasses. Both figures are rendered with expressive facial features. The group is set upon an oval ceramic plinth base with a scrolled and gilded border. The front of the base features a scrolled cartouche containing the hand-painted cursive inscription I RICORDI. The rear edge of the base bears a small painted blue mark reading MILIO. No further maker’s marks or labels are visible.
Width: 23 cm.
Condition report:
The ceramic group shows signs of structural damage and surface wear. A significant loss is visible to the woman\'s right hand, where the index finger has been broken off (photo 1). Heavy fine-line crazing is present throughout the white-glazed scrolled sections of the base (photo 2). Minor surface dust and small dark firing specks are visible across the figures. There is light rubbing and loss to the gilded accents on the scrolled base border (photo 4).
