Lot 520: A Vanson Mid-20th Century Two-Tier Side Table
Sold for: £30
A mid-20th century two-tier side table of modernist design. The piece features a rectangular upper tier with rounded corners and bevelled edges, supported by two angled and tapered wooden uprights. The larger rectangular lower tier is supported by four circular-tapered legs. The surfaces are finished in a straight-grained wood veneer with a distinct striped pattern, while the legs and structural frame are constructed from solid hardwood. A small rectangular metal plate is affixed to the underside of the lower tier, featuring white lettering on a black background which reads THIS IS A VANSON PRODUCTION. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The table shows signs of previous use and handling. The upper tier surface displays a horizontal crack in the veneer near the centre, and a second smaller crack is visible towards the right edge (photo 3). Light surface wear and minor scuffing are present on the bevelled edges and the lower sections of the tapered legs (photo 1 and 2). The finish appears original and the structure remains stable.
