Lot 43: A Collection of Glazed Ceramic Cabbage and Tomato Pattern Tableware
A collection of glazed ceramic tableware, featuring a botanical design of relief-moulded cabbage leaves and applied tomato motifs. The pieces are finished in a vibrant green gloss glaze with high-relief veining, accented by orange-red tomatoes with green calyxes. The collection comprises a large triangular deep bowl, a central circular divided hors d’oeuvres dish with a central dip well, and several leaf-shaped serving platters of varying forms. Included are two sauce boats with matching stands, a lidded butter dish with a tomato finial, a lidded tomato-shaped pot, and a pair of salad servers with leaf-moulded handles. The set also contains various smaller side plates and bowls, including one plate rendered in a cream glaze. The glazes exhibit a fine crazed finish throughout the surfaces. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the upper surfaces of the items.
Width: 28 cm (Triangular bowl at widest point)
Diameter: 28 cm (Circular divided dish)
Length: 28.5 cm (Large leaf platter)
Width: 10 cm (Three-compartment condiment dish).
Condition report:
The collection shows signs of light use and storage wear. Fine surface crazing is present across the glaze of multiple pieces, most notably on the lidded tomato pot and the cream-glazed leaf plate. A small loss of glaze is visible on the rim of the large triangular bowl (photo 3). Minor wear and small losses to the painted finish are evident on the tomato details of the smaller plates. The salad servers and larger platters appear to be without significant chips or cracks.
