Lot 42: A Set of Denby Stoneware Tea Wares, Chocolate Brown and Blue Glaze
Not sold
A set of stoneware tea service items featuring a high-gloss chocolate brown exterior glaze and a contrasting matte pale blue interior glaze. The group includes a lidded teapot of bulbous form with a curved handle and a short, tapered spout; a small open jug with a pinched pouring lip; a circular sugar bowl; and several teacups with corresponding saucers. The teacups are designed with a rounded profile and circular handles. A black stamped mark is present on the base of the jug within a stylised bracket frame, reading: DENBY / MADE IN / ENGLAND / 1/4 PT. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the other items in the set.
Condition report:
The stoneware items appear to be in good vintage condition. The teapot body and lid show no visible chips or cracks. The jug exhibits minor wear and thinning to the glaze at the rim (photo 1). The cups and saucers show surface wear and light scratching consistent with domestic use. One saucer appears to have a small area of glaze irregularity at the rim. The sugar bowl appears intact with no visible defects.
