Lot 413: UK 1974 Royal Mint Proof Coin Set

This auction ended on 3 October 2026.

Start price: £6

Buyer's Premium: 18%

A UK 1974 proof coin set issued by the Royal Mint. The collection comprises six decimal coins: a cupronickel fifty pence, ten pence, and five pence, alongside bronze two pence, one penny, and half penny coins. The coins are housed in a clear acrylic display case with a textured brown insert. Also included is a rectangular copper-toned commemorative plaque featuring the Royal Coat of Arms and the words ROYAL MINT. The obverse of each coin features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, while the reverses display standard decimal designs: a seated Britannia on the fifty pence, a crowned lion on the ten pence, a crowned thistle on the five pence, the Prince of Wales’s feathers on the two pence, and a crowned portcullis on the one penny and half penny. The set is accompanied by its original brown cardboard outer sleeve, which bears a circular gold-printed inscription reading THE COINAGE OF GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND 1974.

Condition report:

The coins exhibit high-luster proof finishes with mirrored fields and frosted relief. There are no visible signs of circulation or significant environmental toning on the coin surfaces. The acrylic display case appears intact with no visible cracks. The cardboard outer sleeve shows minor shelf wear and light scuffing to the edges and corners. The set is complete in its original protective packaging.
