Lot 327: UK 1997-2000 Royal Mint Silver Proof Piedfort One Pound Coin Set
A collection of four United Kingdom one pound coins, struck as silver proof piedfort editions. The set includes individual issues dated 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000. Each coin is struck in .925 sterling silver, as indicated by the accompanying documentation. The obverse of the 2000 coin features the fourth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, with the legend ELIZABETH·II·D·G REG·F·D·2000. The reverse of the 1997 coin displays a rampant lion design representing Scotland, with the denomination ONE POUND struck below. The coins are of piedfort specification, being double the thickness of standard currency. The lot includes four individual folders, each titled UNITED KINGDOM Silver Proof Piedfort One Pound Coin Certificate of Authenticity, and a ROYAL MINT branded display case with a blue velvet-lined base and white satin lid lining bearing a heraldic crest and the ROYAL MINT name.
Condition report:
The coins exhibit proof finishes with mirrored fields and frosted devices. The 1997 and 2000 coins show light peripheral toning on the obverse and reverse surfaces. The 1998 and 1999 coins appear bright with minimal visible environmental impact. Each coin is housed in a clear protective plastic capsule. The presentation case and certificates of authenticity are present and show no significant signs of wear.
