Lot 31: A Pair of UK 1807 George III Halfpennies
Sold for: £8
A pair of UK coins issued during the reign of George III. The obverse of each coin features a laureate bust of the monarch facing right. The legible portion of the legend reads R E X at the top and G E O R G along the lower edge. The reverse depicts the seated figure of Britannia holding a trident and a shield. The surrounding legend reads B R I T A N N I A. One coin clearly displays the date 1807 struck below the truncation of the bust. The pieces are of metal construction with a dark brown tone. No other marks or inscriptions are visible on the items.
Condition report:
The coins exhibit significant signs of circulation and environmental exposure. Both the obverse and reverse surfaces show heavy wear, resulting in the loss of fine detail to the central motifs and legends. There is extensive dark toning and prominent areas of green oxidation across both faces of each coin (photos 1-4). Significant contact marks and surface pitting are present. The coins are not housed in protective capsules or cases.
