Lot 308: A Portrait Bust Of Graham Hill OBE
Not sold
A portrait bust of the British racing driver Graham Hill, depicted in a smiling pose with characteristic moustache and swept-back hair. The figure is shown wearing a racing suit with molded textures representing fabric folds and a high collar. The front of the suit features three molded patches: a circular ESSO logo to the upper right chest, an oval FORD logo below it, and a rectangular patch to the upper left chest reading EMBASSY RACING below a stylised crest. The bust is mounted upon an integral square base with a heavily textured finish. The front face of the base bears the incised inscription GRAHAM HILL O.B.E. followed by a full stop. The reverse and sides of the bust continue the textured hair and racing suit details. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The bust shows signs of surface wear and handling. There are small white losses to the dark finish on the bridge of the nose, the tip of the chin (photo 1), and at several points along the edges and corners of the square base (photo 2). The textured surface of the hair and suit shows minor accumulations of dust in the recesses (photo 3).
