Lot 167: A Set of Lindrick Pottery Bone China Helen Allingham Cottage Scene Decorative Plates
Not sold
A set of bone china decorative plates, each of circular form with a gilded rim. The face of each plate features a colour transfer print depicting a nostalgic English country cottage scene with figures in period dress, based on the watercolor paintings of Helen Allingham. The reverse of one plate bears a printed black mark containing the title COTTAGE AT SHERE, SURREY above a circular emblem depicting a cottage and figures. Below the emblem, the text reads PAINTED BY: HELEN ALLINGHAM PRIVATE COLLECTION / BRIDGEMAN ART LIBRARY. The manufacturer mark consists of a circular arrangement of text reading LINDRICK POTTERY BONE LP CHINA, with a stylised LP monogram in the centre and MADE IN ENGLAND at the base. The other plates in the set feature different cottage scenes by the same artist.
Condition report:
The plates are in good overall condition. There is minor shelf wear and light surface discolouration visible on the unglazed foot rims (photo 2). The gilded rims and transfer decorations appear largely intact, though there is a small area of white spotting or surface loss to the transfer on the roof of the cottage on the bottom right plate (photo 1). No chips, cracks, or repairs are visible.
