Lot 14: A 1917 Royal Crown Derby Traditional Imari Porcelain Tea and Coffee Set

This auction ended on 3 October 2026.

Start price: £50

Buyer's Premium: 18%

Sold for: £40

A set of fine bone porcelain tea and coffee wares manufactured by Royal Crown Derby. The set comprises two cylindrical coffee cans with ring handles, one bowl-shaped teacup with a ring handle, and two circular saucers with lobed rims. The pieces are decorated in the Traditional Imari pattern, featuring underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron-red and orange enamels with hand-applied gilding. The design includes floral sprays of peonies and chrysanthemums amidst scrolled foliate motifs and geometric borders. The handles and rims are fully gilded. The base of one vessel bears a printed iron-red backstamp reading ROYAL CROWN DERBY ENGLAND encircling a crown and interlocking D characters. Below this is a year cypher in the form of a vertical line crossed by two diagonal lines, a pattern number 2451, and hand-painted symbols in orange and green.

Condition report:

The porcelain is in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. The enamels remain vibrant. The gilded surfaces show bright lustre, with minor rubbing consistent with handling and age, notably on the handle of the teacup and the interior rims of the coffee cans. The unglazed foot rims show minor surface dirt and shelf-wear.
