Lot 125: A Vintage Leather Leg-O-Mutton Shotgun Case by J.T. Needs
Not sold
A vintage leg-o-mutton style shotgun case, constructed from heavy brown leather with a sheepskin-style lining. The case is of a traditional tapered form designed for a dismantled side-by-side or over-and-under shotgun. It features a hinged circular locking plate and a fixed leather carrying strap secured by metal hardware. A secondary leather accessory pouch is mounted to the side, fastened with a leather strap and buckle. The case is detailed with visible heavy-duty stitching throughout. The brass-toned hinge plate is stamped with the following legend: J. T. NEEDS 100 NEW BOND ST. LATE J. BRAMAH ST. PICCADILLY. A small crown device is stamped between the words LATE and J. BRAMAH.
Condition report:
The leather exterior shows heavy signs of age and handling, including surface scuffing, crazing, and finish loss across the body and strap (Photo 1). The accessory pouch strap exhibits significant surface degradation and wear (Photo 3). The metal hardware shows a dark patina and areas of verdigris (Photo 2). The sheepskin lining is visible at the opening and appears intact but discoloured. The locking plate is present, but no key is included.
