Lot 317: A Modernist 9ct Gold Cocktail Ring With Natural Emerald Crystal
A mid-20th-century modernist cocktail ring, featuring an architectural openwork cage design. The ring is constructed from 9ct yellow gold, formed of four slender, undulating wire bands that merge at the base and rise to support an intricate, three-dimensional frame. This frame is composed of irregular vertical and horizontal bars accented with spherical terminals. Centrally mounted is a single, elongated natural emerald crystal of hexagonal form, exhibiting a saturated green colour with characteristic internal inclusions and surface irregularities. The gemstone is secured by six integrated gold prongs that form part of the overall brutalist-style structure. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Ring Size: UK K/L, US 5.5 to 5.75.
Condition report:
The ring is in good vintage condition. The 9ct gold structure shows surface wear and moderate oxidation, particularly within the recessed areas of the openwork frame and around the spherical accents. The band wires exhibit slight distortion from previous wear (photo 3). The natural emerald crystal is intact, showing natural surface growth characteristics and internal inclusions as expected for an unpolished specimen.
