Lot 307: A Collection of UK 1942-1967 George VI and Elizabeth II Threepence Coins
A collection of dodecagonal UK threepence coins featuring issues from the reigns of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II. The coins are struck in a yellow metal alloy. The George VI obverses feature the left-facing profile of the monarch with the struck legend GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX F:D:IND:IMP. The Elizabeth II obverses feature the right-facing profile of the monarch with the struck legend ELIZABETH II DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REGINA F: D:. Reverse designs include the thrift plant with three flowering heads and the legend THREE PENCE, or the crowned portcullis with chains and the legend THREE PENCE above the date. Legible dates observed include 1942, 1943, 1944, 1945, 1961, and 1967. All coins have plain edges. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the items.
Condition report:
The coins exhibit signs of significant circulation, including surface scratches, contact marks, and edge nicks across both obverses and reverses. There is evidence of heavy toning and darkening typical of metal oxidation on several examples. No protective capsules or original packaging are present.
