Lot 250: UK 1981 Royal Wedding Silver Proof Crown Coin
A UK 1981 commemorative silver crown coin issued by the Royal Mint to mark the marriage of H.R.H. The Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer. The obverse features the second portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Arnold Machin, surrounded by the struck inscription ELIZABETH II D. G. REG. F. D. The reverse, designed by Philip Nathan, depicts the profile portraits of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer facing left. The reverse legend reads H.R.H. THE PRINCE OF WALES AND LADY DIANA SPENCER 1981. The coin is struck to a proof finish with frosted devices against mirrored fields and is housed in a clear protective plastic capsule within a blue Royal Mint presentation case. The interior of the case lid contains a printed certificate of authenticity reading SILVER PROOF COIN COMMEMORATING THE MARRIAGE OF HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS THE PRINCE OF WALES AND LADY DIANA SPENCER IN 1981 and ROYAL MINT.
Condition report:
The coin is in uncirculated condition with sharp strikes and mirrored fields. Minor natural toning and a small dark spot are visible on the reverse field above the profiles (photo 1). The certificate of authenticity exhibits age-related foxing and brown spotting across the paper surface (photo 1). The blue presentation case and protective capsule are present and intact.
