Lot 237: UK 1965 Elizabeth II Nine Coin Commemorative Set
A UK nine-coin commemorative set, presented in a black display card within a clear protective case. The central coin is a 1965 Crown featuring the laureate head of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse with the legend ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F. D. 1965. The reverse of the crown depicts the portrait of Sir Winston Churchill. This lot includes eight further pre-decimal denominations: a Half Crown, a Florin, an English Shilling, a Scottish Shilling, and a Sixpence, all struck in white metal; a dodecagonal Three Pence struck in yellow metal; and a Penny and Half Penny struck in copper. Each coin is housed in a specific aperture with printed white titles on the black mount. The mount is inscribed E II R 1965 in the centre. The case is constructed from clear composite material. No maker’s marks or labels are visible on the packaging.
Condition report:
The coins exhibit varying degrees of environmental exposure and circulation wear. The copper Penny and Half Penny show significant oxidation and uneven orange-brown toning across the obverse and reverse surfaces. The white metal coins, including the Crown, Half Crown, and Florin, display light surface dulling and minor contact marks. The Three Pence shows darkening and tarnish to the yellow metal surfaces. The clear protective case has visible surface scuffing and fine scratches on both the front and back panels.
