Lot 232: A Group of Royal Imperial Bone China Rose Pattern Teacups
This lot comprises an assortment of fine bone china teacups and saucers featuring various floral transfer-printed designs. The primary pieces are of a waisted pedestal form with scroll handles and scalloped, gilded rims. The decoration consists of large, multi-petaled red and pink roses with green foliage against a white ground. The base of these cups bears a printed mark in dark grey and red ink, consisting of a crown symbol above the words FINEST BONE CHINA in grey, the words Royal Imperial in red cursive script, followed by the letter M, MADE IN ENGLAND in grey. Also included are pieces featuring a separate pattern of stylized red tulip-type flowers with yellow blossoms and green leaves. The rims, handles, and foot rings of all pieces are finished with gold-toned gilding.
Condition report:
The items show signs of wear consistent with handling and use. The primary rose pattern cup features a horizontal surface scratch or hairline crack through the center of the floral transfer (photo 1). Moderate rubbing and thinning to the gilding is visible on the rims and handle surfaces (photo 1). The foot rings show shelf wear and accumulated surface dirt (photo 2). No significant chips or professional repairs are visible.
