Lot 205: A 925 Silver Blue John Pendant on Snake Chain
A contemporary pendant featuring a large oval cabochon of Blue John stone, also known as Derbyshire Spar. The stone displays a translucent to semi-opaque honey-yellow body with characteristic dark purple and brown dendritic fluorite veining, alongside a greyish mineral inclusion to the lower left. The cabochon is secured in a polished rub-over setting. The reverse of the mount features an open-back design, allowing light through the stone. A tapered bail connects the pendant to a fine snake style chain. The interior reverse of the mount is impressed with a rectangular recessed mark reading 925. No other hallmarks, maker’s marks, or signatures are visible.
Condition report:
The pendant and chain show signs of light wear and handling. The stone cabochon is intact with natural internal fractures and inclusions characteristic of fluorite; fine surface scratches are visible under magnification on the polished surface (photo 3). The 925 silver mount and chain exhibit light tarnishing and superficial scratches, particularly to the reverse of the setting (photo 2). The snake chain remains flexible. No original packaging or protective case is supplied.
