Buyer's Premium:

A UK 1942 one shilling coin, struck in .500 fine silver. The obverse features the left-facing uncrowned portrait of King George VI, with the struck legend GEORGIVS VI D : G : BR : OMN : REX. The artist’s initials HP for Humphrey Paget are visible below the truncation of the neck. The reverse features the Scottish crest, depicting a crowned lion sejant affronte seated upon a crown, holding a sword and scepter. This central device is flanked by two saltires within cinquefoils. The reverse legend reads FID : DEF IND : IMP with the denomination ONE SHILLING at the base and the date 1942 split by the design. The coin features a reeded edge. No further maker’s marks or labels are present.


Condition report:

The coin shows significant signs of circulated wear and handling. The obverse displays heavy wear to the high points of the portrait, particularly the hair and ear, with light surface scratching and dark grey toning across the fields. The reverse shows similar wear to the lion\'s body and crown details, accompanied by dark tarnish and surface grime consistent with age. No protective capsule or packaging is supplied.
