Lot 150: A Collection of Tomy and Ertl Thomas & Friends Vehicles
This lot comprises a group of battery-operated and stationary toy vehicles and accessories based on characters from the Thomas & Friends series. The group includes several plastic engines featuring internal battery-operated mechanisms and rubber traction tires. One red engine base is embossed with the text TOMY, MADE IN THAILAND, and 1992 TOMY. A second red engine base is marked TOMY, MADE IN THAILAND, and 1994 TOMY. A green tank engine base bears the printed inscription 1998 TOMY, MADE IN THAILAND, alongside the copyright notice © BRITT ALLCROFT (THOMAS) LIMITED 1998. The lot also includes a barge featuring a metal underside embossed with a stylised ERTL logo in a rectangular border, accompanied by the legend THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE & FRIENDS © BRITT ALLCROFT (THOMAS) LIMITED 1995 and the code 0599Q. Completing the set are two plastic coaches and a large plastic figure of a man in a morning suit and top hat. No other maker’s marks or labels are visible.
Condition report:
The items show signs of heavy play wear and handling. Significant paint loss and scuffing are visible on the faces and boiler sections of the engines (photo 1 and 2). The metal barge base shows extensive scratching and loss of finish in the cargo area (photo 1). Oxidation and surface rust are present on the metal axles and screws of several engines, particularly visible on the undersides (photos 3, 4, and 5). The rubber traction tires on the drive wheels show signs of perishing, cracking, and brown discolouration (photo 3). Several engines are missing their rear plastic couplings. The battery-operated mechanisms have not been tested and may contain internal corrosion. No original packaging is present.
