Lot 140: A Royal Stafford Roses to Remember Bone China Tea and Coffee Service
This lot comprises an extensive bone china tea and coffee service featuring the Roses to Remember pattern. The decoration consists of transfer-printed red roses with grey and green foliage, framed by a scrolled border of small pink flowers. Each piece is finished with hand-applied gold gilding to the rims, handles, and footed bases. The service includes a tall coffee pot with a domed lid and gold finial, a teapot of similar design, a large open sugar bowl, a creamer, and a small lidded pot. The collection also includes a twin-handled rectangular cake plate, large plates, and multiple teacups and saucers in various styles. A green printed backstamp is present on the base of the pieces, featuring a crown device above the text ROSES TO REMEMBER, ROYAL STAFFORD, BONE CHINA, MADE IN ENGLAND, EST 1845. Some pieces also bear a small hand-painted purple character C.
Condition report:
The service is in good used condition. The gold gilding remains bright with high lustre across the handles and rims (photo 1). The transfer-printed rose motifs are vibrant and show no significant fading or loss. No chips, cracks, or visible repairs are evident on the major serving pieces or the visible plates (photos 2 and 3). Light surface wear and minor stacking scratches are present, consistent with age and domestic use.
