Lot 139: A 1981 Royal Crown Derby Fine Bone China Robin Figurine
A 1981 Royal Crown Derby fine bone china figurine depicting a European Robin. The bird is modelled in a naturalistic pose, perched upon a textured tree stump base decorated with green holly leaves and red berries. The figurine features hand-painted decoration with a matte finish to the bird’s plumage and the tree stump, contrasted by a high-gloss glaze applied to the eyes and berries. The underside of the base features a red printed backstamp comprising a crown above a stylised monogram of the letters D and R, encircled by the words ROYAL CROWN DERBY ENGLISH BONE CHINA. Below this is a red copyright symbol, the word ROBIN printed in black, and the Roman numeral XLIV in red, which corresponds to the Royal Crown Derby date code for 1981.
Condition report:
The figurine is in excellent condition. The hand-painted surface is vibrant and shows no signs of loss or fading. The fragile extremities, including the beak, tail, and the points of the holly leaves, are free from chips or cracks. There are no visible professional repairs or structural defects to the porcelain or the glazed elements.
