Lot 102: A 2001 Zippo New York Lighter and a Mini Maxi Novelty Lighter
This lot comprises a metal pocket lighter and a larger novelty tabletop lighter. The pocket lighter features a polished finish with an etched design on the front face titled NEW YORK above a depiction of the World Trade Center Twin Towers, the Brooklyn Bridge, and a crescent moon, with a banner below reading HOT NITES IN THE CITY. The base of the lighter is struck with the ZIPPO logo and date codes J 01, alongside the text BRADFORD, PA. MADE IN U.S.A. The lighter is held within a black plastic display case marked USA on the top and bearing a white adhesive retail label printed J P-5 PHANTOM OF BROADWAY $25.99. The larger novelty lighter features a brushed finish and a perforated chimney mechanism with a thumb-operated wheel. It is accompanied by a black cardboard box printed with the characters MINI MAXI. The interior mechanism of the pocket lighter is not visible beneath the orange adhesive warning label on the reverse.
Condition report:
The Zippo lighter appears to be in unused condition with the original orange safety warning label intact on the reverse (photo 2). The plastic display case shows minor shelf wear and remains structurally sound. The larger novelty lighter shows areas of surface oxidation and pitting to the metal chimney and thumb wheel (photo 1). The Mini Maxi box exhibits edge wear, scuffing, and creasing to the cardboard (photo 3).
