Lot 40: A 2000 Wade Ceramics Lidded Jar for Ringtons, Windsor Castle Pattern
A 2000 lidded storage jar of faceted octagonal form, featuring blue and white transfer-printed decoration. The lid features a central scene of a fortress above a body of water, captioned WINDSOR CASTLE in blue script. Both the lid and the shoulder of the jar are decorated with a repeating border of stylised shells and anthemion motifs. The rims of the lid and the jar are finished with a gold-toned gilt line. The base bears a blue printed mark consisting of a horse-drawn cart within a circle, with RINGTONS in an arc above and a ribbon banner below reading MILLENNIUM 2000. Beneath this, text in a semi-circle reads MANUFACTURED EXCLUSIVELY FOR RINGTONS BY WADE CERAMICS. A small blue printed number 11 is located near the edge, along with a hand-painted gold letter M.
Condition report:
The jar and lid appear to be in excellent condition. There are no visible chips, cracks, or restorations. The blue transfer decoration remains vibrant across all surfaces. The gilt lining to the rims shows no significant wear (photo 1). The unglazed foot ring on the base shows minor surface discoloration (photo 3).
