Lot 334: A German M. Hohner The Super Chromonica Chromatic Harmonica, Key of G
A German chromatic harmonica, the Super Chromonica model produced by M. Hohner. The instrument features a twelve-hole design with chrome-plated metal cover plates, a wood comb, and a metal slide mechanism. The upper cover plate is stamped with decorative scrollwork and the text THE SUPER CHROMONICA and CHROMATIC M. HOHNER HARMONICA. The numbers 1 through 12 are stamped along the lower edge, and a single letter G is stamped on the right-hand side. The harmonica is presented in an original box constructed of wood or card with a textured red patterned paper exterior. The exterior lid is printed in gold and black with THE SUPER CHROMONICA, M. HOHNER, MADE IN GERMANY, CHROMATIC, and HARMONICA. The interior of the lid is lined with purple fabric and features a diagonal red, white, and blue tricolor ribbon. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The harmonica and box show signs of significant use and age. The chrome-plated metal covers exhibit surface scratching, minor tarnish, and small areas of oxidation (photo 1). The wood comb shows wear at the mouthpiece. The presentation box is in poor condition with extensive wear, scuffing, and loss to the paper covering at the corners and along the edges (photo 2). The interior purple fabric is faded, and the tricolor ribbon shows fraying (photo 1). The original metal latch and hinges are functional. The instrument has not been tested for tonal quality.
