Lot 333: A Pair of White Metal Pictorial Skeleton Pocket Watches
This lot comprises two white metal hunter-style pocket watches, featuring pictorial covers and skeletonised movements. Each watch is fitted with a domed clear lens over a pictorial cover. The first watch depicts a green locomotive with the tender marked N E and the red buffer beam numbered 4738. The second watch depicts the FLYING SCOTSMAN locomotive, with the nameplate reading FLYING SCOTSMAN and the buffer beam numbered 4472. The interiors feature white chapter rings with black Roman numerals and skeletonised centres revealing the mechanical movements. The hands are black and include a central sweep seconds hand. The cases are of polished white metal construction with textured winding crowns and bows. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on either item.
Condition report:
The watches show signs of light handling. The polished white metal cases exhibit fine surface scratches and minor scuffs (photo 1). The plating on the bows shows some rubbing and light oxidation (photo 1). The pictorial covers and lenses appear clear and free of significant damage (photo 1). The movements are manual-wind; while the balance wheels are visible, the watches have not been tested for timekeeping accuracy. No original packaging or chains are supplied.
