Lot 182: A Collection of Thirteen Canada Medals and a 2005 UK Wedding Coin
This lot comprises a collection of thirteen metal commemorative medals and a 2005 UK commemorative coin folder. The medal set is titled COATS OF ARMS OF CANADA and is housed in a clear acrylic display stand with a tiered wooden base. The set contains thirteen metal medals. The central medal is inscribed CANADA 1867. The surrounding medals represent provinces and territories, inscribed NEWFOUNDLAND / TERRE-NEUVE 1949, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND / ILE DU PRINCE EDOUARD 1873, NOVA SCOTIA / NOUVELLE-ECOSSE 1867, NEW BRUNSWICK / NOUVEAU-BRUNSWICK 1867, QUEBEC / QUEBEC 1867, ONTARIO / ONTARIO 1867, MANITOBA / MANITOBA 1870, SASKATCHEWAN / SASKATCHEWAN 1905, ALBERTA / ALBERTA 1905, BRITISH COLUMBIA / COLOMBIE-BRITANNIQUE 1871, NORTHWEST TERRITORIES / TERRITOIRES DU NORD-OUEST 1870, and YUKON TERRITORY / TERRITOIRE DU YUKON 1898. Each medal displays a coat of arms on the obverse. The second item is a UK white metal commemorative coin for the wedding of HRH The Prince of Wales and HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, presented in a card folder. The folder displays a colour photograph of the couple and is printed with the Prince of Wales’s feathers, the motto ICH DIEN, and the date 9TH APRIL 2005. The interior is printed with the legend PRINCE OF WALES & DUCHESS OF CORNWALL surrounding the coin. No hallmarks, fineness stamps, or maker’s marks are visible on the metal items.
Condition report:
The collection of thirteen metal medals shows significant surface toning, darkening, and spotting to the faces (photo 2). The acrylic display frame exhibits light surface scratches throughout. The UK white metal commemorative coin appears to be in uncirculated condition within its original printed card folder. The folder shows minor shelf wear at the corners and edges (photo 1).
