Lot 136: A Set of Six Samuel Peace Sheffield Stainless Steel Steak Knives
This lot comprises a set of six steak knives manufactured by Samuel Peace in Sheffield, England. Each knife is constructed with a curved stainless steel blade featuring a serrated section towards the pointed tip. The blades are set into handles displaying a naturally textured surface with a variegated gradient of brown and cream tones. The knives are finished with decorative metal bolsters featuring a chased foliate scroll design and polished circular metal pommels. Each blade bears the etched inscription SAMUEL PEACE SHEFFIELD ENGLAND together with the word STAINLESS vertically aligned near the bolster. The set is housed in a black textured presentation case featuring a red velvet-lined fitted base and a white satin-lined lid. No precious metal hallmarks are visible on the metal fittings, and no maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are present on the case.
Condition report:
The knives show light signs of handling and occasional use. The stainless steel blades are bright, although one blade exhibits minor dark spotting near the serrations (photo 2). The textured handles are intact without visible cracks or losses. The metal bolsters and pommels show minor surface scratches and light tarnishing. The presentation case is functional with working hinges and clasp, showing minor shelf wear to the exterior and light yellowing to the interior satin lining with pressure indentations from contact with the contents.
