Lot 135: A Samuel Pearson Sheffield Three-Piece Carving Set, stag horn handles
A three-piece carving set by Samuel Pearson of Sheffield, comprising a carving knife, a carving fork, and a sharpening steel. Each tool is fitted with a handle made from genuine stag horn, finished with a decorative cast white metal ferrule and a plain, circular white metal end cap. The steel knife blade is etched with the script inscription SAMUEL PEARSON above the block capital legend SHEFFIELD ENGLAND. The fork features two steel tines and a folding metal guard. The set is presented in a black rectangular case with a white satin-lined interior lid and a red velvet-lined base. No hallmark, fineness mark, or stamped purity mark is visible on the metal fittings.
Condition report:
The carving set shows signs of light use. The sharpening steel exhibits surface wear and contact marks. The presentation case shows minor shelf wear to the exterior. The interior white satin lining displays areas of foxing and light staining, with small tears and fraying present near the hinges and top edge. The set is supplied in its presentation case.
