Lot 86: Falkland Islands 1982 silver Liberation Crown
A 1982 commemorative crown issued for the Falkland Islands to mark the liberation of the territory. The reverse design features the Falkland Islands coat of arms, comprising a ram above the sailing ship DESIRE, superimposed over a Union Jack motif. Legible inscriptions struck on the reverse include LIBERATION, 14TH JUNE 1982, and the motto DESIRE THE RIGHT on a ribbon at the base of the crest. The coin is presented in a black leatherette case with a velvet-lined interior and a cream paper insert in the lid. This insert is printed with the Falkland Islands crest and the text THE FALKLAND ISLANDS LIBERATION CROWN. No hallmarks, fineness stamps, or maker’s marks are visible on the coin or the accompanying packaging.
Condition report:
The coin shows signs of environmental exposure and handling. The reverse exhibits prominent golden-brown peripheral toning and fine surface contact marks. The presentation case displays signs of age-related wear, with visible foxing and discolouration to the interior paper insert. The coin is housed in a clear protective plastic capsule within the original presentation case.
