Lot 66: Falkland Islands 1981 Royal Wedding Silver Proof 50 Pence Coin
A 1981 Falkland Islands silver proof 50 pence coin, of circular form, commemorating the marriage of The Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer. The obverse features jugate portraits of the couple facing left, encircled by the legend THE WEDDING OF H.R.H. THE PRINCE OF WALES AND LADY DIANA SPENCER · 1981. The coin is presented in a clear circular plastic capsule held within a beige fabric-covered case. The interior lid is lined in white satin and is printed with a black coat of arms above the words ROYAL MINT. An accompanying card insert is printed with the legend FALKLAND ISLANDS SILVER PROOF COIN COMMEMORATING THE MARRIAGE OF HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS THE PRINCE OF WALES AND LADY DIANA SPENCER IN 1981 above a script ROYAL MINT logo. No other marks or signatures are visible.
Condition report:
The coin shows signs of very light environmental toning to the surfaces. The obverse exhibits a high-quality proof finish with mirrored fields and frosted relief; no significant contact marks are visible. The beige fabric exterior of the presentation box shows light surface discolouration. The interior card insert displays prominent foxing and brown spotting across the front face. The coin is supplied in its original plastic capsule and Royal Mint presentation case.
